Quantum Forum for DXi V5000

Hello,

Virtual DXI's running 4.8.0.1 see version 4.9.0 as being available but can't download it. Error "Error downloading upgrade file. Installation of release RPM failed".

(4.9.2 is not listed as available in the WebGUI, only 4.9.0 is)

On the V-Series firmware download webpage, both 4.9.0 and 4.9.2 are listen but both download-links are non-functional.

Looking at the URL's of both versions, it looks like its stored on someone's personal Google drive (a person called Everett Gidlund)...

I like to skip 4.9.0 due to the VDMS start-up bug (Tech-support gave me the fix but i'd still like to skip and goto 4.9.2 directly if possible).

Kind regards,

Steven Rodenburg

odd I've seen this on some sites but not all - it's weird!

I've been looking at the outgoing traffic that DXi V5000's do when searching for updates. I opened ports TCP 80 and 443 outbound "any". No difference. Still the error "No or incorrect response from any upgrade server."

I then stumbled on a couple of other wierd things. I have NTP set to two internal NTP servers. I see traffic to those go by but the DXI also attemps to contact a whole bunch of other hosts on the internet on UDP 123 (NTP). The firewall blocks all but UDP 123 to the internal NTP Servers.

Same for DNS. I see UDP 53 requests going to the internal DNS Server but also to 8.8.8.8 which is Google's DNS. The firewall blocks all but UDP 53 to the internal DNS Servers.

Neither Google's DNS or that whole range of NTP servers (probably an NTP-Pool) are configured, yet, it still tries to contact them.

Only once, ever, was I able to update these two DXi's and that was to 4.8.0.1.  After that, It sees 4.9.0 being available but has never been able to download it.

And with the normal download links on Quantum's support page being dead links, pointing to someone's personal Google Drive.

I just installed a new 4800 at a customer. It shipped with release 4.9.1 and it has the same "VDMS dead & Scheduler broken" bugs as 4.9.0 did. The fix is also the same by the way.

I was going to manually update mine that was before the power outage which has broken it!

Where did you download the file(s) you need for a manual update then? I can't find a working link.

not tried yet, as my Appliance is busted!

did you managed to get the downloads you needed ?

The links btw are One Drive for Business

No. No response yet from my usual technical contact at Quantum. I'll have to open a support case.

This forum seems to be a bit dead as far as Quantum employee involvement is concerned :-(

did you not managed to download the updates manually from the OneDrive/Sharepoint.inks ?

Interestingly, I updated two appliances to 4.9.2, one upgraded fine, the other borked, had to rollback the snapshot.

Umm, tried again upgrading it reboots, states it's upgrading, reboots again and "does not start the software"

states not running.

Okay, I think we are here, and finally finished, it just takes a while to upgrade, and three reboots, and eventually it started running, but then complained I needed to update 21GB --> 36GB for VMDS. Lack of resources.

Just checking with Veeam.

No need to check as that is normal (and documented). VMDS requires those resources.
