We are currently experiencing an issue with email notifications from our Quantum appliance. Specifically, we are receiving the following error:
"Error Sending Test Email" (Error in sending email notification at all)
The challenge is that the appliance does not support the ping command — it returns "command not found." This limits our ability to test basic network connectivity from the device.
All configuration settings (SMTP server, ports, credentials) appear unchanged and were previously working correctly. Despite this, email alerts have stopped functioning.
Does anyone have suggestions on how to troubleshoot this issue effectively in an environment without the ping utility? Are there alternative tools on the appliance that we should use and check?
I am glad to inform you that I have found a solution to my issue. The Quantum DXi backup appliance offers a ServiceLogin account. Once this account is enabled in the GUI, you can SSH via PuTTY and use the ping command, as well as the telnet command, for example, for troubleshooting.
