Quantum Forum for DXi V5000

Hi Guys,

We are in the process of buying the Quantum tape library, at moment we have Scalar i40 LTO4 with Fiber card. I received the quote for LTO 5 and 6 with and it uses SFF8088 SAS connector.

Thinking to go with LTO 6 but it uses the SAS connector? Has anyone used the SAS connector?

If you used SAS connector, can you please share your experience?

here is the specs:

EC-L2PAE-YF - Quantum SuperLoader 3, one LTO-5HH tape drive, 16 slots, 6Gb/s SAS, rackmount, barcode reader (NAM/APAC/LAM)
E7-L2SAE-YF - Quantum SuperLoader 3, one LTO-6HH tape drive, 16 slots, 6Gb/s SAS, rackmount, barcode reader (NAM/APAC/LAM)

thx

Hello Sdlan,

I use to support the the i40/i80 and SuperLoader products.

From a tape drive and tape automation perspective, SAS tape drives are intended as the replacement
for SCSI tape drives for drives that are attached directly to a media server. This is opposed to native
Fibre Channel tape drives, which are intended primarily for connection into a Fibre Channel storage
area network (SAN).

I have attached a PDF that covers SAS Technology.

Hope this helps,

Jerry
