at first I'd like to say many thanks for the great free product V1000!
I am really enjoying it every day and for my environment it's nearly perfect. Nearly because I am missing the iSCSI support. I have a lot of Windows Server 2008 R2 VMs which I'd like to backup to the DXi with the build in Windows Server Backup Feature. I am sure that the great deduplication of V1000 will save me a lot of disc space which I need for my daily backups.
So my question is, is there a plan to integrate iSCSI support for the DXi V1000 Appliance? I mean iSCSI is an enterprise class protocol and it would be good to see it one day implemented in the V1000.
I am not sure if iSCSI will be integrate with the DXi v1000, but why not use vmPro to backup the 2008 R2 VMs?
As long as the storage for the VMs is not independent disk, physical RDM disk, or a VM with bus sharing (clustered) disk, you would see the benefit of vmPro utilizing change block tracking in conjunction with the DXi v1000's de-duplication capabilities. If any of the 2008 R2 VMs are running transaction based databases, vmPro's use of VSS would also be very beneficial.
