Replication is included in the DXi V1000 Standard Edition for your full use.

To use it, you just need another copy of DXi V1000 and follow the configuration information in the Users Guide.

Ideally, you want to use a different serial number and license for the second DXi V1000, so go back to our Web site and register for another copy of DXi V1000 Standard Edition. You will need to use a different Email address than you did for your first registration. You do NOT need to download the actual V1000 OVF file again, just use the one you downloaded before. You will receive a second license key via Email and can install / configure the second DXi using the new license key you receive.

Ok, I've done that. The second time through I only received a serial number and product code (I received the license bundle the first time). When I enter the serial number on the license server page I get a "unit not found" message. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Can I setup another VM using the same license? If not, can I request a second license for this type of test?

In a nutshell, you can stand up another copy of the same DXi V1000 with the same license, but understand that's not ideal. Fine for testing and I think everything will work as long as the hostname of the DXi's are different and the IP addresses are different.

If you register with a different Email, you will get a totally different serial number and product key. 

I realize a potential source of confusion : What you receive for a license after March 5, 2012 is for the new DXi V1000 version 2.2. That's a bit different than the older DXi V1000 version 2.1.1 which used an actual license key.

So, step 0 : Make sure you have upgraded to any older DXi V1000 version 2.1.1 to DXi V1000 version 2.2. Upgrade instructions are located here in the DOWNLOADS link of Forum-V.

Step 1 : if you did indeed receive a serial number and product key Email, that would apply to a new copy of DXi V1000 version 2.2. You will likely want to go download this new product and install it as your second DXi. Instructions for doing that are also located in the DOWNLOADS link of Forum-V

Step 2 : Make sure you have both DXi's up and running, that they have different IP addresses and that you have either CIFS or NFS shares defined that you intend to replicate. It's best to set up replication when you first configure the share. Easy enough to do it afterwards, just means you have to do a bit more initial replication of data that is already present on the source DXi.

Step 3 : READ  the manual about how replication works. You may use either Namespace or File and Cartridge-based replication. Namespace means that you will have multiple snapshots of the data on the target DXi and that you execute a recovery process on a particular snapshot. Namespace replication is essentially a scheduled activity. File and Cartridge means that the data is replicated to the target DXi when a file is closed (CIFS) or after a small period of time of no activity (NFS) to the target DXi. No need for scheduling, but no multiple snapshots of data either.
