What version of Backup Exec are you using? I use 2012 and I use client-side deduplicaton. Basics are that you will need to have the DXi under storage setup as an OST target. The server that you want to backup needs to have the RAWS agent and Quantum plug-in installed. If BE can see the Quantum plug-in correctly you should be able to see the IP address\Host ID populated in "Direct access properties" page of the target server. Another thing to check is that you are properly licensed in BE. You need a Deduplication license to use OST and the RAWS license.

Thank you for your answer, I should have detailed my scenario a little better... :)

in scope: Symantec 3600 R2 (2012 BE appliance) and DXi V1000

3600 is already a 5TB dedup appliance, where I added the DXi.

There are jobs running client-side to BE's internal dedup already, client-side working fine.

I added the DXi and ran a couple of one-time backups from servers that were running client-side fine. Those one-time jobs that are pointing to DXi state that they cannot run client-side.

Quantum plugin was ran on the remote test servers. I am currently restarting all services on the 3600.

Any other ideas as to what could be failing/missing? Thank you again! :)

Hi Alex,

Like I said on the previous reply, I was restarting BE services (on the 3600). After restarting the services (although not mentioned as necessary by BE itself), test jobs have ran to DXi using client-side deduplication... :)
