Quantum Forum for DXi V5000

I wanted to delete the data from the dxi6700 compliance, there is around 2 Tb of data inside the dxi compliance and I want to format all the disk of dxi compliance or delete the data from the dxi compliance , but I am not able to do it, there is no command to format the disk .

I want to tell u that we have configured the vtl in dxi6700 and after testing the vtl features we deleted all the loaded drives and deleted the entire vtl setting, and even did the space reclamation but still the device is showing the 2Tb of data . now want to format or delete those data.

can anyone help me to delete the entire data from the dxi device.

Hi Vipulvajpayee,

Are you saying you have deleted all of the NAS/VTL shares and virtual tapes followed by a space reclimation and not gained back that usable space?  This is a physical DXi?  Do you have a support contract we can open you a Service Request under to get you some help?

Jon

Hello Jon,

its a physical DXi box, I was doing POC in one of my customer place, POC went good, but because the DXi is showing the 2TB of data space occupied, so the customer is not allowing us to take that box out , because they are afraid of data leakage, so they want all the data should be deleted first , then only we will get permission to take our DXi compliance out.

I have already worked in lots of Disk based solution, and most of the disk solutions have some cmmd to scrub the disk or format the disk, so that entire data can be deleted.

so if you know some type of cmmd or solution which can help me to resolve the problem, then please let me know.

Hi Vipulvajpayee,

If the DXi is at the 2.2.1 firmware version you could run the secure shred feature via the GUI. Basically you delete the VTL partition, NAS share, or OST storage server and then start the secure shred. Secure shred will detected that has been deleted and the erase the data. This method leaves the DXi OS in place and operational.

There is also a utility called System Data Shred. Using the utility you create either a bootable USB stick or bootable CD. This method erases everything off the DXI, including the OS which renders the DXi inoperable until a fresh software install is preformed. Currently I believe only a Quantum or TPM tech is able preform this operation which would require a case to be opened on the serial number for the DXi.

Hi jerry,

As per my knowledge , that day I have checked each and every GUI options , but apart from space reclamation, there was nothing "secure shred" features.

well we have opened the case , and may be quantum engineer will try to resolve it..

But quantum should work to create some short of cmmd to delete the system data or format the disk.,

Thanks for your help jerry.
