Error in copying file. Input/output error. Return code: 5

Hi,

Using vmPRO to backup 5 different VM's within the one vSphere.

Backup for one of the VM's is very temperamental and as of late keep getting this error message:

Error in copying file '/export/172.17.200.204/pronto-xi-appliance-rhel-x86_64restore/pronto-xi-appliance-rhel-x86_64restore_64-pancbt.vmdk': /vmfs/volumes/54751c68-470fc546-9cd8-a0d3c1053024/pronto-xi-appliance-rhel-x86_64restore/pronto-xi-appliance-rhel-x86_64restore_64.vmdk: Input/output error. Return code: 5

I can confirm CBT is enabled fort his VM too.

It fails for both FULL and PARTIAL copy types.

Any feedback/advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Hello Brett,

This is a communication error between vmPRO and the VM of some sort.

Rediscovering the VM may help to resolve the issue. To do this, select the VM from vmPRO and edit. Disable export and CBT. Reboot vmPRO. Select the VM again and enable export and CBT, then run another round of backups. The first backup will be an export (full), the one after that will be a CBT (partial).

Hi Jerry,

Thanks for your reply. You were right - it was some sort of communication error between the two. It turns out the HP Server was experiencing a memory leak of some sort, causing some abnormal behaviour.

After performing a full hardware restart of the server, vmPRO appears to be working properly again.

Error in copying file. Input/output error. Return code: 5
