As for handling, the Leica 50mm F1.4 Summilux-M ASPH is a relatively small lens; though, the silver version is weighty. Aesthetically the 50mm Summilux looks a bit narrow on the Leica M body (my opinion). I also own the Leica 50mm F2 Summicron-M APO and cannot tell much difference between the weight and size of these two lens in normal use.

I live in hope IIRC, these where with the 35/1.4 on a 40D, wide open. The Leica Summilux 50mm f/1.4 ASPH is a lens I've owned twice in the last five years. I've considered writing about my experience of it for a couple of years now, but every time that I've considered starting this review I haven't really had any clear idea about what to write about this lens. All non-product images in this review were shot with a Leica M9-P and the 50/2 APO-Summicron-M ASPH, with the exception of the one B&W image lower down the review. The Summicron 50mm is great, nice balance and great I added the 24mm Summilux to shoot alongside my 50mm, but I still wanted a good 35mm prime for my Leica setup. I borrowed the Leica 35mm f/2 Summicron and the 35mm f/1.4 Summilux and after a month of shooting, decided to go with the more expensive Summilux. The Summilux is one of the most popular 35mm lenses on the market, some consider it the First off, I'd like to add that this is not a perfect comparison. I am using the Leica-R Summicron 50mm f2 rather than the Leica-R Summilux 50mm f1.4 to compare with the Zeiss Planar T 50mm ZE
