Email warning "Export warnings for server 1.2.3.4: 8 VM's cannot be exported" ... "SmartMotion Scheduled backup failed, 3004"

Had an incident recently where one of the VM hosts was under memory pressure, which may have impacted the vCenter appliance (e.g., 1.2.3.4) running on the same ESX host.  This issue also appars to have broken the backups as we are now getting daily emails stating "Export warnings for server 1.2.3.4: 8 VM's cannot be exported" and "SmartMotion Schedule backup failed, 3004: (Thre are no exported VMs assigned to the folders on this policy (policy_name)".  Multiple alerts are coming through for each policy.

We have resolved the original memory issue be redistributing the VM's and also adding more memory to both ESX hosts.  I have also rebooted the vCenter and vmPRO appliances to see if that would clear up the issue, but the problem persists (alert for no backups).  I'm presuming the issue started with the memory pressure, and that (for example), the vmPRO appliance lost communication with the vCenter appliance and backups started failing.

I'm still faily new to vmPRO and didn't originally setup the 4201 appliance.  I'm working hard to RTFM and get up to speed, but I just figured this might be a simple issue with quick fix that someone has experienced before.  If someone can provide an answer that works, I'll have XL pizza delivered to them at the date/time/location of their choosing (and they can choose any/all the toppings they want).

Thanks,

Lance

Hello Lance,

I would start by trying to rediscover the VMs. To do this select the VMs in the folders or the folder itself and then select edit VMs. Dis-able the export and CBT options by setting them to no, then click save.

Next, select on the VMs or the folder and again click edit VMs then enable export and CBT options by setting them to yes and then click save. Check your virtual environment, on any of the VMs that you enabled CBT on you should see a snapshot created and then removed.

Trying running a backup and see if the errors persist.
