Quantum Forum for DXi V5000

The initial power up grabs IPs, says Starting, and then goes to Diagnostic and never gets to Normal.

The address is not available via the web.

Anybody else seen this behavior?

Thanks,

Interesting that I start the boot up for the first time and encounter the same thing. I have a suspicion, but no documentation and the forum search doesn't even find this topic when searching for "diagnostic".

Determined the most likely cause is an AMD CPU host. Unlike just about every other software package in existence, the DXi V1000 cannot handle AMD CPUs.  Ahh well. I'll find something else.

Thanks, checked that after first occurrence of issue, Intel here.

Got it to install on VMware Workstation 8 but it would not take the default password.

What next!?

If you are use IE please try to change compatibility mode for older IE and see if the default password works.

Did you ever get a resolution to this problem?  I am experiencing the same issue...Intel CPU here as well.

Mike's problem unfortunately is that he is using VMWare Workstation 8.  The system requirements list that 9 is mandatory.

No way to say what the issue is in Liz's case, however I recommend that she click on "Resources" at the top of this page and then on the Quickstart guide on the top of the right column for the DXi V1000.  Page four lists system requirements and they Really Mean It™. Anything even a tiny bit below those (4095 MB of RAM instead of 4096, for example) will cause a failure.

Edit: Even VMWare Workstation 8 simulates some things differently and can cause password hashing issues which result in an invalid hash comparison.

After upgrading to Workstation10 the V1000 worked fine.  Had to use Mozilla, as IE 10 fumbled the password.

In my other environment, I changed the datastore and the V1000 came up ok.  (And to save space, you can change the number of virtual disks by editing the VM before starting up.)  And sorry but no, I have not determined root cause of why it would not work on the original datastore. They all show as NFS with thin-provisioning supported.  Maybe a version mismatch somewhere.

I have a just about the same issue.  I can load the initial VT1000 and it loads configures and I can take a backup.  There is the firmware upgrade the installs activates but then stays in diagnostics mode on reboot.  Running VMworkstation 10.0 running on HP with Intel CPUs

Has anyone confirmed that this is due to AMD processors?

Running in ESXi 5.1u1 - stuck in Diagnostic mode.

If you are using an AMD processor, then yes, it's definitely due to the complete lack of support for AMD processors. If you are not using an AMD processor, then something else is causing the symptom.

Diagnostic Mode is a symptom, similar to pain in your gut. It can be caused by many things, including AMD processors, just like pain in your gut can be caused by gas, flu, or being punched. Sadly, I personally have no idea about what else causes it beyond having a good processor that this system doesn't support.
