Hello Shahab,

Most likely de-duplicaiton and compression are working. If you copy data to a share and then mount the share to look at the data, the DXi will present the data in its native (raw) size. The DXi does this because if you were using backup software to access the share, the backup software needs to see the data in its native format, the backup software would not recognize de-duplicated data.

You can check two things to make sure de-duplication and compression are working:

First from the Home screen, look at Data Reduction Statistics. As long as the total reduction ratio is greater than 1:1 you will know that de-duplicaiton is working.

If the total reduction ratio is not greater that 1:1, then check the share and make sure it was enabled for de-duplication.

First from the configuration tab, select the share and then click edit.

Second, verify that de-duplicaiton is enabled on the share.

thanks jerry

the size of reduction in also same ,same , after and before .

and my nas is also enable for duplication .

i'm using a free version of DXI1000 that i have serial and license key from quantum for 1 month .

dose it work in this situation ? and i don't have DXI1000 device .

Yes, the license key you have only limits the amount of data you can store on the DXi, but all the features of the DXi will work with that license.

Make sure the data you are sending to the DXi is not de-duplicated, compressed or encrypted before it is sent to the DXi. Also, depending on what backup software you use, make sure multiplexing is not enabled. Any of these types of data will not de-duplicate on the DXi.

hello

i do not use any backup software . i just copy files to the share folder such as AVI .MP3 or .... and they are not zip or encript .

should i use backup software for using this software ? is it necessary ?

if YES .what software you suggest?

The DXi is designed to archive data. It should not be used as an active working directory. You should use backup software to send data to the DXi.

It terms of which backup software to use that is up to the customer's preference. If you have a virtual environment though and want to backup virtual machines, I would suggest trying vmPro, the standard version can be downloaded for free.

thank you jerry .

can i copy backup files(backup with backup exec) .manually ?

i mean can i copy the files to the DXI directory with copy or paste .
